ちなみに英作文についてですが、山口が個人的に愛読しているのは、Steven Pinker氏の『The Sense of Style』という洋書です。

『知的に見せようとして副詞を並べたてると、かえって幼く見えます』

そんなわけで、かっこつけて小難しく書いたら40点で、逆に中学生英文法で書いたら95点という、何とも皮肉な結果が生まれました。



ただそれでも、山口自身は『難しい英単語、難しい表現』を知っていて損をすることはないと思います。


山口も含めて、私たちが英作文を書くときは、当然相手が読みやすい文章を書くよう配慮する必要があります。


しかし実際の大学入試で出てくる英文は、鬼のように難しいので、そんな文章をスラスラ書ける必要はありませんが、少なくとも書けて損はないはずです。



だから

『普段の練習では強度を上げる』

『入試本番では、文法的事故が起きないように、シンプルに書く』



これくらいで良いと思います。




『40点』と採点されるとそれなりにショックではありますが、その分だけまだまだ自分にも伸びしろがあるってことですもんね。



自分の趣味であるギターやランニングも、終わりや限界がないからこそ楽しく続けられますが、それは勉強でも同じですね。




ありがたいことに、山口の指導をたくさんの中高生のみなさんに受けていただいておりますが、この塾が続く限り、変わらず精進していこうと改めて思いました。



あ、ちなみにこの英文の和文はこちらでした。

意識したポイント

①中学生レベルの英文法と単語縛り

②接続詞などは２文にぶった切る（接続詞や非制限用法は使わない）

③主語はweなどに統一し、SとVは３秒で分かるように意識

④複雑な慣用表現、構文は使わない





余談ですが、自分で言うのもなんですが、山口の強みはみなさんと同じ、『元々英語がとてもニガテだった』ということです。



誤解を恐れずに言わせていただくならば、今もニガテです。



でもだからこそ、常に成長し続けたいと思っていますし、それこそがみなさんと共に頑張り続けることができる原動力だとも思っています。



私の武器は、『中学２年生の期末テストで、０点を２回も取ってしまったこと』です。



だからこそ、英語がニガテなみなさんに、同じ目線で指導ができると自信を持って言えます。
